By default, Microsoft Edge downloads files to the Downloads folder in your user profile. If you’d like to change this to a different folder, you can modify the Windows registry to adjust the download path.
Steps to Change Edge’s Download Folder Using Registry Editor

Open Registry Editor:
- Press
Win + R
to open the Run dialog box. - Type
regedit
and press Enter. - If prompted by User Account Control (UAC), click Yes to grant administrative permissions.

Navigate to the Registry Key:
- In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
- In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following location:

Find the Download Key:
- In the User Shell Folders key, look for the value
{374DE290-123F-4565-9164-39C4925E467B}
. This corresponds to the Downloads folder.
- In the User Shell Folders key, look for the value

Change the Download Path:
- Right-click the
{374DE290-123F-4565-9164-39C4925E467B}
entry and select Modify. - In the Value data field, change the path to the desired download folder. For example, you can set it to:
C:\Users\YourUsername\Documents\MyDownloads
- Click OK to save your changes.

Close Registry Editor:
- Once the path is modified, close the Registry Editor.

Restart Your PC:
- To apply the changes, restart your computer. After the restart, Microsoft Edge should use the new folder as the default download location.
