Published: at 03:11 AM

FileZilla is a widely used FTP client for transferring files between a local computer and a server. Here’s how you can pause an ongoing download in both Windows and macOS environments.

Steps to Pause a Download

On Windows

  1. Open FileZilla and locate the ongoing download in the Transfer Queue section at the bottom.
  2. Right-click on the specific file or files being downloaded.
  3. Select “Pause” from the context menu.
  4. The download will be paused and can be resumed later by right-clicking and selecting “Resume”.

On Mac

  1. Open FileZilla and navigate to the Transfer Queue section.
  2. Locate the file being downloaded.
  3. Right-click (or use Control + Click) on the file in the transfer queue.
  4. Choose the “Pause” option.
  5. To continue later, right-click again and select “Resume”.

Commands for Pausing and Resuming Downloads

While FileZilla doesn’t have direct command-line support for pausing or resuming individual downloads, it does support the following general FTP commands that can be helpful for stopping or managing transfers:

Stop or Pause a Transfer (Manually Pause)

Resume a Transfer (Manually Resume)

Command to Disconnect the Server (Stop All Transfers):

  1. To stop all ongoing transfers and disconnect from the server in FileZilla, press:

    • Ctrl + D (Windows/Mac) to disconnect the current session.
  2. Alternatively, navigate to the Transfer menu in the toolbar:

    • Click Stop and Remove All Transfers.
